Mission

Moving Beyond This to reclaim a life worth living.

We integrate the lived wisdom of a survivor-caregiver duo with professional expertise in human systems and relationship dynamics to empower individuals and caregivers to move beyond clinical recovery and reclaim the identity, intimacy, joy, and connection that make a life worth living.

Vision

To be the leading catalyst for relational thriving after stroke and major disability. We envision a world where Beyond This serves as the essential bridge in the care continuum—where everyone has access to the coaching and community needed to move past the grind of recovery and into the vibrancy of true connection.

Our Journey

In 2017, a massive stroke fundamentally changed the world we had spent twenty years building together. While the clinical world focused on vitals and autonomic functions—the mechanics of staying alive—our life went into a freefall. Lindsey was left holding the weight of our family alone, balancing a medical crisis with a house full of kids.

Over eight years of recovery, we became acutely aware that modern medical interventions can get a body back to functioning, but they don't assist with restoring the connections we rely on to truly thrive. We founded Beyond This in 2026 to provide that missing support: safe space and peer-led coaching to help folks learn how to move from patient and caregiver back to spouse or partner.

The Core Values

Reclaiming Connection

We are purveyors of hope grounded in reality. We combine deep empathy with structural tools to provide clear, actionable frameworks for rebuilding. We move couples from a state of passive endurance to active agency, helping them intentionally design a future that feels vibrant and connected.

Courageous Space

We provide a radical, safe space for the conversations the medical world often overlooks. By having the courage to confront the unspoken—the "taboo" realities of post-trauma love, grief, and sex—we dismantle the shame and silence that hinder true healing. We speak the unspoken so that connection can begin.

Healing the Partnership

Disability can create fractures in the entire partnership system, and healing requires addressing the duality of the survivor and the caregiver simultaneously. By coaching the system—rather than separating its parts—we address the shifting power dynamics and emotional fatigue that affect both people in the home. We ensure that as the survivor grows, the partnership thrives.

Protecting "Us"

We believe that while a life-altering event may change a body, it does not have the right to claim a relationship. We approach every couple with deep respect for their unique history, experience, and an unwavering commitment to the dignity of their future. We help protect the sanctity of the partnership, ensuring that partner roles are never permanently replaced by patient and caregiver ones.

Flavor & Spice

We believe that intimacy is not a luxury; it is a vital part of the human experience and recovery shouldn't cost you your sex life. We explicitly hold space for the adult conversations that many professionals shy away from. Whether navigating physical changes or shifting desires, we offer practical guidance to help you and your partner reconnect physically. We exist to ensure that passion remains a cornerstone of your partnership, proving that intimacy can be even more profound after the storm.

Professional Boundaries

Beyond This is not a clinical practice. We are coaches, facilitators, and advocates. We do not diagnose or treat medical conditions; instead, we partner with individuals and families to navigate the human experience that exists after the crisis. We focus on the "why" of living, providing the relational coaching and human-systems support that enable and elevate successful clinical outcomes.

Peer Coaching Model

We understand that lived experience is a form of expertise that cannot be taught in a classroom. Our authority is rooted in our own recovery journey. This peer-led model is backed by the science of shared experience, offering a level of trust and practical insight that creates unique psychological safety for clients. We aren't just experts; we are witnesses to the possibility of thriving.
